Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced on May 5 that the central government will initiate road infrastructure projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore in the state over the next three to four years.
This announcement was made during an event in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, where Gadkari laid the foundation stone and inaugurated road projects totaling over Rs 3,900 crore. Gadkari highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming connectivity in Telangana, stating, “Roadworks are continuously being undertaken in 33 districts. So far, works worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore have been completed. The development that you have seen now is just the tip of the iceberg. In the coming times, in the next three to four years, we are going to take up works worth Rs 2 lakh crore in Telangana.” He expressed confidence that upon completion, these projects would significantly enhance the state’s image and infrastructure.
The national highway network in Telangana has more than doubled in the last decade, increasing to 5,000 km since Gadkari assumed office. He reiterated the Narendra Modi-led central government’s dedication to Telangana’s development and offered support for water conservation initiatives under the Centre’s “Amrit Sarovar” scheme. Gadkari also called for cooperation from Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his cabinet to expedite the implementation of these projects. The road infrastructure projects are expected to unlock new opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment in Telangana. Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy, MoS for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Telangana Ministers Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka also attended the event, emphasizing the importance of these developments for the state’s economic growth.
These initiatives align with the central government’s broader vision of creating zero-net carbon, eco-friendly, sustainable, gender-neutral, and equitable cities. The focus on enhancing road infrastructure is expected to contribute to the state’s overall development, providing better connectivity and fostering economic opportunities for its residents. As Telangana embarks on this ambitious journey to revamp its road infrastructure, the collaboration between the central and state governments, along with active participation from local stakeholders, will be crucial in ensuring the successful implementation of these projects. The anticipated improvements in connectivity and infrastructure are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s future growth trajectory.
