Telangana government has announced plans to establish an 80-acre Eco-Town, drawing inspiration from Japan’s Kitakyushu City.
This initiative aims to integrate advanced environmental practices and technologies to create a model for future urban planning. The Eco-Town project is part of Telangana’s broader vision for sustainable and people-centric development under the “Telangana Rising 2047” initiative. The state government has signed a cooperation agreement with Kitakyushu City to collaborate on various forward-looking initiatives, including Net Zero targets, riverfront development, circular economy practices, clean technologies, and digital innovation.
The envisioned Future City in Telangana will focus on the development of eco-friendly industrial zones, zero-waste design principles, and advanced water and waste management systems. This approach aligns with global trends in sustainable urban development and positions Telangana as a leader in environmental innovation. To strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate collaboration, the Telangana government is exploring the feasibility of introducing direct flight services between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu. This move is expected to enhance connectivity and promote cultural and economic exchanges between the two regions.
The announcement was made during the conference “From Kitakyushu to Telangana: Catalysing Sustainable Industrial Growth,” jointly organised by the Telangana government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at T-Hub. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from both governments and industry leaders, highlighting the commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation. With this initiative, Telangana aims to set a benchmark in environmental sustainability and urban innovation, creating a replicable model for other regions to follow. The Eco-Town project represents a significant step towards achieving the state’s long-term goals of sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.
