Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to expedite clearance for the ₹24,269 crore Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 project. Citing the city’s urgent need for mass transit infrastructure, he proposed a joint venture model with the central government. The project, spanning 76.4 km, aims to ease congestion and promote sustainable mobility in fast-growing Hyderabad.
During a meeting in New Delhi, the Telangana CM met Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to push for immediate approval of the Phase-2 metro expansion. Revanth Reddy highlighted the rising pressure on Hyderabad’s existing public transport system and stressed that the extended network is crucial for accommodating urban growth and preventing traffic bottlenecks.
The proposed Phase-2 would add 76.4 km to the city’s metro rail network, covering key zones of population and commercial growth. CM Reddy assured the Union minister that the state government is fully prepared to fund the project in partnership with the Centre, reflecting its commitment to long-term urban mobility solutions in Telangana.
He further informed the minister that the detailed project report (DPR) has been amended per earlier suggestions from the Urban Development Ministry. All necessary documentation is ready for departmental vetting. The CM urged the Union minister to direct relevant agencies to grant clearances without delay, enabling work on the next metro phase to begin swiftly.
Officials familiar with the matter say that the Metro Phase-2 plan will connect underserved corridors and integrate with other transport modes. The plan aligns with national goals on net-zero emissions and climate-resilient infrastructure, while also addressing Hyderabad’s expanding commuter base. Experts have repeatedly flagged the project as a top priority for the city’s sustainable future.
