Telangana Launches Ambitious Net-Zero City Project
Telangana is set to transform its urban landscape with the creation of a new, sustainable, and eco-friendly city. The government has established the Future City Development Authority (FCDA), which will lead the ambitious project of developing a net-zero city in the state. This state-of-the-art city will span an extensive 30,000 acres, strategically located between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways, encompassing 56 villages across seven mandals.
In a significant move to bolster the development efforts, 36 villages previously under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will now fall under the FCDA’s domain, streamlining the planning and development process. The move was confirmed in a Cabinet meeting, underscoring the government’s commitment to creating a model for sustainable, balanced urban growth that prioritises both environmental and administrative efficiency.The ambitious net-zero city project is part of Telangana’s broader vision to create a greener, more sustainable future. The state government has laid the groundwork by approving the creation of 90 new positions within the FCDA. These roles, including both regular and outsourced positions, are expected to play a crucial role in driving the development of the city.

In addition to the establishment of the FCDA, the state government has also expanded the remit of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to accommodate the new Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. This expansion will significantly increase HMDA’s jurisdiction, which will now include 11 districts, 104 mandals, and 1,355 villages, as well as an additional 332 revenue villages.
