Tata Motors Unveils Eco-Friendly Scrapping Hub in Kolkata

Tata Motors has inaugurated its latest Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata.

This facility, named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect’, is the company’s eighth such centre across India and aims to dismantle up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually in an environmentally responsible manner. The Kolkata facility is designed to handle a diverse range of vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers. It is equipped with advanced dismantling technology and digital operations to ensure efficient and eco-friendly processing. The facility operates in partnership with Selladale Synergies India Private Limited and is strategically located to serve the eastern region of India, complementing existing centres in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, and Guwahati.

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Commercial Vehicles at Tata Motors, emphasised the company’s commitment to expanding its vehicle scrapping ecosystem. “With a combined annual capacity of over 1.3 lakh vehicles across eight RVSFs, we are proud to lead India’s shift towards a safer, greener, and more sustainable future,” he stated. The Re.Wi.Re facility in Kolkata is fully digitalised, offering paperless operations and optimised workflows. It features cell-type dismantling for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles, and line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles. Specialised stations are in place for the safe removal and processing of hazardous components like tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases. Each vehicle is processed in strict accordance with India’s vehicle scrappage policy, ensuring complete documentation and eco-friendly disposal of all parts and fluids.

This initiative aligns with Tata Motors’ broader strategy to promote a circular economy within the automotive sector. By establishing state-of-the-art scrapping facilities, the company aims to extract maximum value from end-of-life vehicles, reduce waste, and contribute to environmental sustainability. The Re.Wi.Re facilities also support the government’s National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, which encourages the phasing out of unfit and polluting vehicles to achieve a lower carbon footprint. The launch of the Kolkata facility marks a significant step in Tata Motors’ efforts to create a comprehensive and responsible vehicle recycling infrastructure across India. As the company continues to expand its network of Re.Wi.Re centres, it reaffirms its commitment to sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship.
