Take a Walk in the Clouds: Elevated Forest Path Nears Completion

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is making steady progress on Mumbai’s first elevated forest walkway in Malabar Hill. With nearly all civil works completed, the project is now entering its final stages, including painting, installing lavatories, electrical work, and setting up ticket counters.

The elevated walkway, which will be 705 meters long, will pass through the lush Malabar Hill Forest. It will feature a glass-bottom viewing deck that offers breathtaking views of the forest and the Arabian Sea. Additionally, there will be a designated bird-watching area along the path. The walkway’s construction has been carefully planned to minimize its impact on the environment. The deck is made of wood to allow natural water flow and protect local wildlife. The BMC has also taken strict measures to ensure that no trees were cut down during the project, as the area is considered an environmentally sensitive zone.

Despite facing challenges such as staffing issues and delays due to the upcoming Assembly elections, the project is expected to be ready for public use by the end of the year. The elevated forest walkway is the result of a BMC initiative launched in 2020. The INR 22 crore tender for the project was awarded in 2021, and construction began in 2022. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the walkway, the BMC recently placed a bid worth INR 2.43 crore to hire staff for cleaning and maintenance. This investment will help to preserve the walkway’s beauty and ensure that it remains a popular destination for visitors.

The elevated forest walkway is a significant addition to Mumbai’s green spaces. It offers a unique opportunity for residents and tourists to connect with nature and enjoy the city’s stunning views. As the project nears completion, the excitement is building for the day when the public can finally experience this remarkable new attraction.
