Indian renewable energy solution provider Suzlon has won an order for a 39 mw wind power project from First Energy, a subsidiary of Thermax Group. The project is part of 100 mw wind-solar hybrid project by First Energy, with Suzlon responsible for supplying 13 wind turbine generators with a rated capacity of 3 mw each. The turbines will feature Suzlon’s hybrid lattice tubular towers and will be installed at Thalaikattupuram, Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2024, with Suzlon overseeing the equipment supply, project supervision, erection and commissioning. Additionally, Suzlon will provide comprehensive operations and maintenance services following commissioning.
Suzlon has been involved in India’s wind energy sector for over two decades, with a current installed wind capacity of over 12 gw and operations in 18 countries. India has set a target of reaching 175 gw of installed renewable energy capacity, with wind energy expected to contribute 60 gw of that target. The country aims to increase its share of renewable energy in the electricity mix from 10 percent to 40 percent by 2030, with wind energy being a key component of that effort.
India is currently the world’s fourth-largest wind energy market, with an installed capacity of over 38 gw. The country has seen significant growth in wind energy installations in recent years, with several large-scale projects being commissioned. In addition to the environment benefits of renewable energy, the government’s push towards increased renewable energy deployment is also driven by the need to address India’s growing energy demand.
