Sustainable Ihram Project Supports Green Pilgrimage

Saudi Arabia’s Fashion Commission has unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at weaving sustainability into the spiritual journeys of Hajj and Umrah. Titled “Ihram Circularity:

Weaving a Greener Hajj and Umrah Experience,” the newly released white paper sets a precedent for integrating eco-friendly practices into sacred traditions. This move marks Saudi Arabia’s significant foray into circular fashion, tying religious devotion with an urgent global call for environmental stewardship. At the core of this initiative lies the Sustainable Ihram project, which seeks to produce special edition Ihram garments crafted from recycled materials. The endeavour aims to tackle the mounting issue of textile waste while maintaining the spiritual sanctity of the pilgrimage experience. With millions of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom annually, the project is poised to create a meaningful environmental impact by diverting discarded Ihrams from landfills and reintroducing them into the religious cycle as sustainable garments.
