Southern Railway has reaffirmed its commitment to efficiently managing water supply at key stations, particularly Dr MGR Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore, ensuring uninterrupted service for departing trains.
In response to recent concerns regarding water shortages on certain routes, the railway authorities have taken proactive measures to address the issue promptly. According to the latest statement from Southern Railway, a comprehensive approach is in place to meet the total water demand, amounting to 90.56 lakh liters per day, across critical locations including Basin Bridge Coaching Depot, Chennai Central, Chennai Suburban terminal, and Chennai Egmore stations. This demand is being effectively fulfilled through a combination of resources, including Chennai Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board provisions, railway borewell facilities, and tanker services. In a bid to uphold service standards, railway officials tasked with watering coaches at stations have been sensitized and empowered to monitor water supply and availability in real time, leaving no room for oversight or shortfall. Any deviation from this mandate will be met with swift action, as emphasized by a railway official who assured that complaints regarding recent water shortages in certain trains are being diligently investigated.
