Chennai commuters are being advised to adjust their travel plans as Southern Railway has announced major disruptions to EMU train services due to essential engineering works at the Chennai Beach yard. The maintenance operations, scheduled from 10:40 pm to 4:30 am, will lead to several train cancellations and partial service interruptions over the next two days.
The following trains will be fully cancelled: Chennai Beach-Tambaram services departing at 8:25 pm, 8:55 pm, and 10:20 pm today and tomorrow; Tiruvallur-Chennai Beach’s 9:35 pm service on both days; Chennai Beach-Tiruvallur’s 7:50 pm train; Chennai Beach-Arakkonam’s 4:05 am service on Wednesday and Thursday; Gummidipundi-Beach’s 9:55 pm departure; and Beach-Gummidipundi’s 10:45 pm service.
Additionally, several services will be partially cancelled. The Beach-Tambaram trains departing at 11:05 pm, 11:30 pm, and 11:59 pm will only operate between Beach and Egmore; the Beach-Chengalpattu service at 3:55 am will also be affected in the same manner on Wednesday and Thursday. The Chengalpattu-Beach trains leaving at 9:10 pm, 10:10 pm, and 11:00 pm today and tomorrow, as well as the Tirumalpur-Beach train at 8:00 pm, will be partially cancelled between Beach and Egmore. Lastly, Guduvancheri-Beach services departing at 10:10 pm, 10:40 pm, and 11:15 pm will be partially cancelled between Tambaram and Beach. These disruptions are part of crucial maintenance work designed to improve the efficiency and safety of the railway infrastructure. Passengers are encouraged to check the latest schedule updates and plan their journeys accordingly to minimise inconvenience. Railway authorities have assured that measures are being taken to ensure minimal disruption and to complete the necessary work promptly.
