Weather conditions across major southern urban centres are expected to remain varied on 19 February, with haze in Hyderabad, fog episodes in Chennai and Amaravati, clear intervals in Bengaluru, and possible rainfall activity over Thiruvananthapuram, according to the India Meteorological Department.
For Hyderabad, forecasters indicate a partly cloudy sky accompanied by haze. Daytime temperatures are projected to peak around 32°C, with early morning readings near 19°C. Relative humidity may fluctuate between 31 per cent and 75 per cent. While no formal warning has been issued, persistent haze in expanding metropolitan regions often raises air-quality concerns, particularly during winter-to-summer transitions when atmospheric dispersion weakens. In Amaravati, shallow to dense fog is likely during morning hours. Temperatures are expected to range between 20°C and 34°C. Fog conditions can disrupt early road and highway movement, affecting inter-city bus operations and peri-urban logistics. Urban planners note that as new administrative and residential districts develop in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region, visibility-related advisories become increasingly relevant for commuter safety.
Bengaluru is forecast to experience largely clear skies, turning partly cloudy by evening. The temperature band is estimated between 18°C and 30°C, with humidity levels ranging from 45 per cent to 70 per cent. Stable conditions are likely to support regular flight and road traffic operations, though late-evening cloud cover may bring mild temperature moderation.Further south, Thiruvananthapuram may witness a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures could vary between 25°C and 35°C, alongside relatively high humidity levels of 60 per cent to 80 per cent. Sudden rain spells in coastal cities can strain drainage systems, particularly in low-lying neighbourhoods vulnerable to waterlogging.
Chennai is expected to record partly cloudy conditions with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 31°C. Though no specific alert has been issued, intermittent fog patches could influence early morning vehicular flow along arterial corridors. The Southern Cities Weather Update highlights the climatic diversity across peninsular India even within a single day. Urban administrators increasingly rely on granular forecasts to coordinate transport scheduling, waste management, emergency services and public health advisories. As southern metros expand and climate variability intensifies, integrating real-time meteorological data into city governance systems will be central to building resilient, people-first urban environments.
