South Mumbai Faces 24 Hour Water Cut on Wednesday

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will impose a 24-hour water cut across several areas of South Mumbai from 10 am on Wednesday, May 29, to 10 am on Thursday, citing urgent pipeline upgrade works in the E Ward.

The affected regions fall under administrative Wards A, B, and E, with some areas also facing low-pressure water supply during this period. The civic body stated that the ongoing project involves the decommissioning and replacement of a 1,200 mm diameter water main at Nawanagar and Dockyard Road, along with the replacement of aging 900 mm valves at the Bhandarwada reservoir’s Compartment 1. These upgrades are aimed at improving long-term water distribution efficiency. Complete water supply shutdown will affect prominent areas such as the Naval Dockyard zone, RBI, GPO Junction to Regal Cinema in A Ward, several neighbourhoods in Dongri and Mumbai Port Trust in B Ward, and zones like Mazgaon Koliwada, Hatibaug, Mount Road, and Matharpakhadi in E Ward.

Partial disruptions, including low-pressure water, are expected in Babula Tank and Dongri ‘B’ zones on Thursday, as well as parts of the E Ward, including Nagpada, Madanpura, Byculla, and Clare Road. The Mumbai Central zone and F South zone areas like Agripada, Chinchpokli, and Kalachowki will also experience reduced pressure. Following the restoration of supply, BMC has warned that murky or low-pressure water might persist for the next 48 hours. Residents are strongly advised to store sufficient water in advance and to filter and boil it before consumption as a precautionary measure.

The civic body has appealed for public cooperation during the disruption, noting that such infrastructural improvements are crucial for sustainable and uninterrupted water delivery across the city.
