In a move that will significantly disrupt the daily commute for thousands of Mumbaikars, the construction of the Sion Barrier Bridge is set to begin, with the project slated to take two years to complete. This infrastructure project will bring about major changes to several bus routes in the Sion area, necessitating detours and adjustments for public transport users.
The affected bus routes include A25, 176, 305, 312, A341, and 463, which will experience diversions in both upward and downward directions. For buses traveling upward, passengers can expect the service to take a left turn at Ashok Mill Naka, proceed along Sant Rohidas Marg, turn right at Peela Bangalow Signal (Y Junction), and continue through Dharavi Depot and Naik Nagar before returning to their regular routes. For buses traveling in the downward direction, the diversion will involve a right turn at Naik Nagar, continuing along Sant Channaya Marg, followed by a left turn at Peela Bangalow Signal, and a right turn at Ashok Mill Naka. These buses will then travel along the 90-foot road and resume their usual routes.
In addition to these major routes, buses on routes 11 and 374 will also be diverted at the Sion Barrier. These buses will make a U-turn and then travel via Dharavi Depot and Peela Bangalow before continuing their normal paths. With the construction of the Sion Barrier Bridge expected to last for two years, commuters are being urged to plan their travel ahead and stay updated on any further changes to the bus routes. The ongoing work is expected to cause delays and inconvenience, making it all the more essential for passengers to remain flexible and aware of new travel routes and timings. Authorities have recommended regular updates through local media and transport apps to help commuters adjust to these changes.
