Prime Minister travelled across four states—Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh—unveiling and laying foundation stones for critical infrastructure and urban development projects cumulatively worth nearly ₹70,000 crore.
Beginning his journey in Sikkim on May 29, the Prime Minister inaugurated a range of projects aligned with the state’s eco-sensitive ethos. Attending the event themed Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth, he emphasised the importance of sustainable development in hilly terrains and biodiversity-rich zones. Among the notable launches was a state-of-the-art 500-bed district hospital in Namchi built at a cost of over ₹750 crore, a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling designed to boost green tourism, and a commemorative statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok.
The state government has launched a year-long celebration titled Sunaulo, Samriddha and Samarth Sikkim, reflecting on the state’s journey through cultural preservation, ecological balance, and economic empowerment. The emphasis throughout the Sikkim leg was on low-carbon urban growth and people-centric infrastructure, particularly in the health and mobility sectors.Later in the day, the Prime Minister travelled to West Bengal’s northern districts of Alipurduar and Cooch Behar to lay the foundation of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network—an initiative central to India’s clean energy roadmap. With an investment of over ₹1,010 crore, the CGD project will expand access to piped natural gas for 2.5 lakh homes and establish 19 CNG stations, supporting clean vehicular fuel and boosting local employment.
In Bihar, a key highlight was the inauguration of the newly developed terminal at Patna Airport, a ₹1,200 crore investment that is expected to ease passenger congestion and improve regional connectivity. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the new civil enclave at Bihta Airport valued at ₹1,410 crore, which aims to become a future hub for aviation in eastern India. On May 30, the focus shifted to Karakat in Bihar where the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a suite of infrastructure projects worth ₹48,520 crore. A cornerstone of this effort is the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district, a 2,400 MW facility intended to ensure energy security across Bihar and neighbouring states. This project alone, worth nearly ₹30,000 crore, will serve as a vital node in India’s mission to expand low-emission power generation while fostering industrial growth in backward regions.
The Bihar leg also included new highway projects and the groundwork for a new bridge across the Ganga between Buxar and Bharauli, designed to improve east-west connectivity and reduce logistics bottlenecks.Concluding his tour in Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 4 km-long underground section of the Kanpur Metro from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central—an investment of ₹2,120 crore. With 14 stations, including five underground ones, the metro aims to ease traffic congestion and promote mass public transport in the industrial city. The route is designed to integrate with major city landmarks and reduce dependency on private vehicles, contributing to carbon emission reduction.
Additionally, road and power infrastructure projects were launched in the state. Beneficiaries of schemes such as the PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna, National Livelihood Mission, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana received direct aid through certificate and cheque distribution ceremonies, underlining the Centre’s push for inclusive development.
The whirlwind tour, seen as a strategic outreach effort ahead of the government’s anniversary on June 9, blends infrastructure with sustainable ambition, especially in regions historically underserved. While focusing on energy, mobility, health and green fuel, the Prime Minister’s messaging continues to link national pride with regional equity—a balance that could define the tone for his third term in office.
