Jaipur: The stretch of Shanti Path between LBS College Marg and Jawahar Nagar has turned into a hazardous zone for motorists due to ongoing utility line installation by the power supply department. The absence of streetlights and proper barricading exacerbates the situation, particularly after sunset, making navigation perilous.
Motorists traversing this route face significant challenges, particularly at night. A recent traveller from Jawahar Nagar reported the difficulties posed by the lack of illumination along the stretch, especially near the Rajasthan University wall. “Driving on this road after dark is extremely dangerous. The dug-up portion is almost invisible, forcing drivers to be extra cautious,” he remarked.
The current road layout requires vehicles coming from Jawahar Nagar to veer approximately 10 feet to the left, encroaching upon the opposite lane. This situation creates a precarious scenario as drivers from the other direction are often unaware of the compromised condition of the road, resulting in frequent close calls. “Drivers from the opposite direction do not realise that a section of the road is unmotorable, which forces them to push towards the left. This poses a significant risk of accidents,” explained Sharma, a concerned motorist. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has acknowledged the issue but indicated that the responsibility for streetlight maintenance lies with the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Greater). “For reasons unknown, the streetlights are being switched off. We will investigate the matter on Tuesday,” stated a JDA official.
The lack of proper demarcation and illumination not only jeopardises the safety of motorists but also raises questions about the coordination between the municipal and development authorities. The ongoing roadwork without adequate safety measures underscores a recurring issue in urban infrastructure management. Local residents and commuters are urging the authorities to expedite the installation of barricades and restore street lighting to prevent potential accidents. The current state of Shanti Path is a glaring example of how infrastructural negligence can lead to serious safety concerns. The resolution of these issues is critical to ensuring the safety and convenience of Jaipur’s motorists.
