Sewage Floods Pali Hill and Residents Push for Solution

Upscale Pali Hill in Bandra West has recently been plagued by recurring sewage overflow issues, leading to significant discontent among residents. Over the past month, the situation has deteriorated, with sewage from seven chambers spilling into residential society compounds and adjacent bungalow premises on multiple occasions.

A representative of the Pali Hill Residents Association, highlighted the worsening problem, which has intensified with the onset of the monsoon. “During heavy rains, the sewage systems overflow, causing both sewerage and rainwater to flood our premises. While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) responds when contacted, we are calling for a more permanent solution. It’s crucial that the root cause of this problem is addressed so that residents do not have to repeatedly alert the BMC,” they stated. She also noted that the road housing the sewage chambers was resurfaced just a year ago, raising questions about the long-term effectiveness of the repairs.

A former BMC corporator from the area added that while the civic body has been responsive, the persistent nature of the issue suggests that a deeper problem may exist. “Should these issues continue, it may be necessary to consider replacing the sewer line entirely. Currently, the BMC is using a suction machine to clear blockages,” he explained. On Thursday, the Sewerage Operation Department dispatched a team to address the situation.

The technical team managed to remove the blockage, and an official reported that the sewer line was functioning properly at that moment. “Although the system appears to be working smoothly now, similar measures in the past have only provided temporary relief. We are monitoring the situation closely,” the official added. Residents remain skeptical, noting that despite previous interventions, the sewage overflow has recurred within hours. The ongoing issue underscores a pressing need for a sustainable solution to prevent further disruptions and maintain sanitary conditions in the area.
