Secunderabad Roads Closed, Traffic Diverted Due To Bonalu Festival Preparations
In anticipation of the Bonalu festivities, authorities in Secunderabad have enforced widespread traffic curbs across key road corridors to ensure public safety and crowd regulation. Several arterial and feeder roads leading to the Mahankali Temple have been fully closed to vehicular movement, prompting large-scale traffic diversions and disruption of suburban and intercity rail access.
The closure of routes from Hill Street, General Bazar, and Adavaiah X Road towards the temple has been supplemented with diversions through Minister Road, Rasoolpura, and alternate stretches connecting key points such as Ranigunj and Patny Junction. Officials confirmed that vehicular access is restricted throughout the festival perimeter and have advised the public to avoid congested zones.With the Secunderabad Railway Station falling within the congested area, authorities have rerouted passenger flow through alternative access points such as Chilkalguda and Platform No. 10. Public transport systems including RTC buses have been diverted towards less impacted routes including Musheerabad, Marriot Hotel stretch, and Clock Tower Circle to manage commuter flow.
Designated parking lots have been set up across public institutions and open spaces near Ghasmandi, Mahabub College, and Swapnalok Complex to accommodate festival attendees. Traffic police have deployed officers in high-density zones and appealed for public cooperation in using helplines and social media updates to navigate delays. Officials emphasised that the restrictions were essential to avoid overcrowding and accidents, especially given the high pedestrian traffic expected during Bonalu. Residents and train passengers have been urged to begin travel well in advance and use permitted access points to the railway station. With coordination from multiple departments, the city aims to facilitate a safe and smooth celebration while balancing mobility and religious sentiments.
