Secunderabad Cantonment is set to benefit from a substantial increase in its drinking water supply, as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has allocated an additional 1 million gallons per day (MGD) to the region. This enhancement aims to address the growing water needs of the Cantonment’s residents and improve the overall water supply infrastructure.
In a recent review meeting conducted by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, officials announced that the current water supply of 5.9 MGD would be augmented to 6.9 MGD. This increased supply is expected to significantly alleviate the water scarcity issues that have been affecting the 40,000 drinking water connections in the area. As part of the new water distribution plan, 0.54 MGD of the additional supply has already been provided over the past week. The remaining 0.46 MGD is scheduled to be distributed to residents within the next three to four days. This timely boost is anticipated to improve water availability and help meet the increasing demand in the Cantonment area.
Furthermore, officials have initiated a comprehensive survey to identify and address illegal water connections within the Cantonment. The survey aims to regularise these connections and ensure that all water usage is properly metered. This measure is expected to enhance the efficiency of water distribution and management, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable water supply system. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board’s proactive approach in increasing the water supply and addressing illegal connections reflects a commitment to improving public utilities and meeting the needs of the community.
