Sampriti Flyover to Stay Shut at Night for 3 Months for Repair Work

The Sampriti Flyover, a crucial infrastructure that connects Jinjira Bazar to Batanagar on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, will undergo essential repairs starting this week. The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has announced that the flyover will be closed every night from 10 PM to 6 AM for the next three months. This closure will allow for necessary repairs to the carriageway surface, ensuring the longevity and safety of the structure.

As part of the ongoing repairs, KMDA will also replace 12 damaged expansion joints, which are essential for the flyover’s stability, particularly during seasonal weather changes. The repair project has received approval and funding from the urban development department to cover the extensive work required to restore the flyover to its full functionality. Given the importance of the Sampriti Flyover as a vital route for commuters traveling between Jinjira Bazar and Batanagar, the closure during nighttime hours is expected to cause some disruption. To mitigate traffic congestion during the closure periods, the traffic police have worked out a detailed diversion plan. This plan will direct vehicles along alternate routes to ensure that the flow of traffic is not heavily impacted during peak hours. The diversion plan, which will take effect from Saturday, will be carefully monitored by authorities to ensure minimal inconvenience for commuters.

The 6.8 km Sampriti Flyover is a key part of Kolkata’s southern road network, facilitating daily travel for thousands of residents. By addressing the wear and tear of the flyover, the repair project is expected to enhance safety and the overall driving experience. Once the repairs and replacement of expansion joints are completed, the flyover will be safer, more durable, and better equipped to handle heavy traffic in the years to come. The KMDA aims to complete the work on schedule, ensuring a smoother commute for the city’s residents in the long term.
