Sahupura turn shut temporarily to speed up Greenfield Expressway construction

The construction of the Greenfield Expressway, a pivotal infrastructure project designed to connect Faridabad with the upcoming Noida International Airport, has necessitated the temporary closure of the Sahupura cut to expedite progress.

This strategic move aims to facilitate the swift completion of the expressway, which promises to significantly enhance regional connectivity and reduce travel times. The Greenfield Expressway spans approximately 31 kilometers, with about 24 kilometers traversing Haryana and the remaining 7 kilometers in Uttar Pradesh. It is engineered to provide a seamless link between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Noida International Airport, thereby bolstering economic activities and easing congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR). The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has acquired land from several villages in Faridabad to facilitate this development, underscoring the project’s expansive scope and significance.
To accelerate construction, the Sahupura turn has been temporarily closed. Consequently, traffic from Sikri towards Mithapur on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is being diverted to the service road near Sahupura village. Motorists intending to access the expressway from Sahupura village and sectors 62-65 are now required to use the IMT interchange. These diversions, while causing temporary inconvenience, are essential for the timely completion of the expressway.
The expressway is poised to serve as a critical artery, linking the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway directly to the Noida International Airport via the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway. This integration is expected to streamline traffic flow and provide a more efficient route for commuters and logistics operations alike. Additionally, the expressway will enhance connectivity to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Yamuna Expressway, further solidifying the NCR’s transportation network.
The construction contract for this ambitious project has been awarded to Apco Infratech, with an estimated cost of ₹1,660.50 crore. The company has initiated work at multiple locations along the proposed route, with projections indicating that the expressway will be operational by next year. In line with sustainable development goals, green belts are slated for development on both sides of the expressway, contributing to environmental conservation and aesthetic enhancement.
The Greenfield Expressway is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time between Faridabad and the Noida International Airport, transforming a journey that previously took hours into a matter of minutes. This improvement is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on existing routes, promote eco-friendly transportation solutions, and stimulate economic growth in the surrounding regions.News24
While the temporary closure of the Sahupura cut may present short-term challenges for commuters, the long-term benefits of the Greenfield Expressway are substantial. Enhanced connectivity, reduced travel times, and the promotion of sustainable urban development are among the myriad advantages that this project promises to deliver to the residents and businesses of the NCR.
