Saharanpur is poised to witness a major transformation in regional rail travel with the upcoming launch of the Vande Bharat Express connecting Lucknow Junction and Saharanpur. Officials from Indian Railways confirmed that the new train will reduce travel time significantly while providing modern facilities designed to enhance passenger comfort, convenience, and safety.
The decision follows extensive planning by the Ministry of Railways and the operational agencies responsible for premium train services. Sources said the route, finalised after careful assessment of commuter demand, aims to serve daily travellers, business passengers, and tourists in northern Uttar Pradesh, while boosting overall regional mobility. According to rail transport experts, the Vande Bharat Express will provide a high-speed alternative to conventional services, making it a game-changer for the Lucknow–Saharanpur corridor. “This service is expected to improve travel efficiency and modernise regional connectivity in line with sustainable urban transport goals,” said a senior railway official.
The train will feature automatic plug doors, ergonomic reclining seats, and rotating executive-class seating, providing a premium travel experience. Each coach will have CCTV surveillance, mobile charging sockets at every seat, bio-vacuum toilets, and emergency safety mechanisms, including fire extinguishers, push-button alarms, and openable windows. Additionally, a pantry coach will be equipped with a hot case, water cooler, deep freezer, and hot water boiler to enhance passenger convenience during journeys. The integration of advanced safety and monitoring systems, such as the Coach Condition Monitoring System (CCMS) with remote diagnostics, reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology in sustainable rail operations. Experts note that these features will not only reduce travel-related stress but also contribute to efficient energy use and operational reliability, supporting the government’s broader goals for eco-friendly transport infrastructure.
Commuters along the route have long demanded faster, safer, and more comfortable train services. Currently, conventional trains on this corridor operate at slower speeds with limited facilities, leading to extended travel times and passenger inconvenience. The Vande Bharat Express is expected to address these issues while setting a benchmark for regional connectivity.
