RVNL Secures ₹404 Crore Contract for Major East Coast Railway Project

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) has secured a ₹404.4 crore contract from East Coast Railway for the much-anticipated Koraput-Singapur Road Doubling Project. The Letter of Acceptance for the contract was issued to RVNL recently, marking the beginning of this extensive railway project, which aims to improve connectivity in the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway.

The Koraput-Singapur Road Doubling Project is part of a broader initiative to expand the railway infrastructure along the East Coast. This project will play a pivotal role in enhancing the railway network between Tikiri and Bhalumaska stations. RVNL’s mandate includes the construction of 27 major bridges, which consist of 22 major bridges and five road-over bridges (ROBs). The project will also involve essential tasks such as earthworks for approach formation and protection works, which will ensure the durability and safety of the infrastructure. This ambitious project is expected to enhance the railway’s operational efficiency and ease the movement of goods and passengers between key stations. The improvements will help ease congestion, ensuring smoother transportation and potentially reducing travel times for passengers.

According to RVNL, the project is expected to be completed within 30 months. The timeline indicates a well-paced approach to upgrading critical railway infrastructure while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing railway operations. This expansion project will contribute to the growth of the region’s economy by facilitating better connectivity and improving the region’s accessibility to other parts of India. The inclusion of 27 major bridges, including five ROBs, indicates the scale of the work involved. These new bridges will not only enhance the rail network but will also provide better road connectivity, benefiting the local population. The construction of road-over bridges is expected to alleviate traffic congestion at railway crossings, enhancing road safety and making transportation more efficient for both vehicles and pedestrians. RVNL’s involvement in this project marks a key moment in its growing influence within India’s infrastructure sector. The company’s previous achievement in securing a ₹3,622 crore contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) for developing a middle-mile network highlights its expanding role in both railway and telecom infrastructure.

By securing this latest contract from East Coast Railway, RVNL strengthens its position as a leader in infrastructure development, working on a range of projects that contribute to the nation’s economic growth and modernisation. The Koraput-Singapur Road Doubling Project is expected to have far-reaching impacts beyond the railway sector. The construction activities will create jobs in the region, providing employment opportunities in both the short and long term. The improved railway infrastructure will also facilitate the movement of goods, contributing to the region’s economic growth and trade potential. Furthermore, the project will enhance connectivity between important industrial hubs and contribute to the broader development of the state’s transportation network. As a result, it is expected to open up new opportunities for businesses and communities in the area.

With RVNL’s vast experience in railway infrastructure and the growing demand for better connectivity, this ₹404 crore contract is a positive step forward for the East Coast Railway network. The completion of the Koraput-Singapur Road Doubling Project will not only strengthen the railway network but also contribute significantly to the development of the region. The RVNL’s successful bid for this project is another example of how the company continues to play a crucial role in India’s infrastructure development. It highlights the importance of expanding the railway network and modernising India’s transport systems to meet the growing demands of a rapidly developing nation. As the project progresses, it will undoubtedly play a key role in transforming the East Coast Railway network, providing more efficient and safe transportation options, and fostering economic development in the region.
