Rotterdam Port to Channel Indian Green Ammonia to Europe

India’s AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a major green energy supply chain between India and Northwestern Europe.

The corridor will focus on transporting low-carbon fuels such as green ammonia, green hydrogen, and sustainable aviation fuels from India to the European continent through Rotterdam—Europe’s primary energy gateway. The deal aims to enable annual exports of up to one million tons of clean fuels by 2030, with projected trade reaching approximately $1 billion each year. The partnership will also develop supporting infrastructure at both ends of the corridor, ensuring safe handling, storage, and distribution of hydrogen-based fuels. AM Green, backed by the founders of Greenko Group, is preparing to commence production of green ammonia in Kakinada, targeting five million tons annually by 2030. This volume is equivalent to around one million tons of green hydrogen. The collaboration will connect India’s emerging net-zero industrial hubs with high-demand centers across Europe, strengthening both regions’ decarbonisation agendas.

Port of Rotterdam CEO Boudewijn Siemons called the agreement “an important move toward building a secure and sustainable energy connection between Europe and India,” highlighting the port’s role in Europe’s hydrogen logistics and energy transition. Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder of AM Green, said the alliance “solidifies India’s position as a key global supplier of clean fuels and supports the broader vision of building an international green energy network.” As Europe accelerates its shift away from fossil fuels and India pursues its Green Hydrogen Mission, this corridor offers a tangible route for deepening energy collaboration.

The Port of Rotterdam, handling 13% of Europe’s energy intake, aims to become climate-neutral in the coming decades, while AM Green continues scaling renewable energy and sustainable fuel production across India.
