Road Infrastructure Collapses Amidst Heavy Rainfall in Region

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have led to significant flooding, causing severe disruptions in transportation between the two states. The deluge has brought vehicular movement to a halt, particularly affecting the vital route between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. The situation has become critical with the inundation of roads, particularly at Ithavaram near Nandigama, where floodwaters have breached the national highway, compelling authorities to suspend traffic.

The impact of the flooding is particularly severe in the NTR district, where the Kattaleru stream has overflowed, severing transportation links between 20 villages in Gampalagudem mandal. Further exacerbating the situation, the overflow of the Nallavagu, Wyra, and Kattaleru streams in Nandigama mandal has led to additional disruptions. The Wyra River’s waters have reached the highway at Ithavaram, rendering it impassable and stranding RTC buses that typically ply the Vijayawada-Hyderabad route.

NTR district police commissioner SV Rajashekhar confirmed the suspension of RTC bus services at Ithavaram, underscoring the extent of the transportation disruption. As floodwaters continue to affect the region, the immediate priority will be to assess and repair the damaged infrastructure to restore connectivity. The situation highlights the urgent need for improved flood management and infrastructure resilience to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters on critical transportation networks.
