Road Expansion in Gurugram Utility Shifts to Start Soon

Gurugram is on the cusp of a significant infrastructure upgrade as preparations commence for the relocation of essential utilities along the critical stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has outlined plans for shifting sewage lines, water pipelines, and other utilities to facilitate the construction of a six-lane road and an elevated corridor. According to officials, this phase of the project is expected to commence within the next 15 days.

In a recent inter-departmental meeting held at the GMDA office, detailed budget estimates and relocation plans were shared with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project, which encompasses the 3.2 km stretch between the two key junctions, is a crucial component of Gurugram’s efforts to alleviate traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas. The six-lane corridor, which will also feature a flyover, is projected to cost ₹138 crore. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address frequent traffic jams and improve the flow of vehicles converging from national highways and expressways.

The relocation task involves not just shifting sewage and water lines, but also relocating a petrol pump, a CNG station, a 66 KV substation, and high-tension power lines. GMDA officials have instructed all relevant agencies to promptly mark and plan for the relocation of these services. The project, which was initially delayed due to land availability issues and potential Metro line conflicts, is now set to move forward with the NHAI overseeing the construction. The expedited utility relocation is a critical step towards realising the road upgrade and addressing the city’s traffic concerns.
