Ahmedabad: Amidst mounting opposition from local residents regarding the Panjrapol flyover project’s impact on trees, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s bridge department has introduced revised plans to address community concerns while advancing essential infrastructure development.
Initially facing backlash over proposed tree removals, the corporation has now opted for a revised approach that involves “heavily trimming” some trees and employing a specialized tree transplanter machine to relocate 19 mature trees. However, skepticism persists among residents regarding the success of transplanting these trees. In a recent press release, the municipal authority clarified that the project will utilize the existing 30m TP road, thereby minimizing the necessity for additional land acquisition. By expanding within the current 6.5m space on both sides, the corporation aims to maintain environmental balance while enhancing road infrastructure.
Moreover, the press release reassured stakeholders that the width of the footpath will be preserved at 2m, accompanied by the addition of a 4m service lane. This strategic adjustment seeks to ensure adequate space for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic, aligning with urban planning standards.
