Reliance Industries has undertaken the development of expansive coastal road gardens in Mumbai, spanning nearly 70 hectares, with an investment estimated at around ₹400 crore. The project is part of the larger Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), one of the city’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives, designed not only to ease traffic congestion but also to enhance the urban environment through the integration of public green spaces.
According to officials, the proposed gardens will be spread across multiple reclaimed stretches along the coastal road. The spaces are expected to serve as a significant addition to Mumbai’s limited green cover, providing residents and visitors with much-needed recreational zones in a city dominated by high-rises and concrete landscapes. The plan includes a variety of features, such as landscaped gardens, tree groves, biodiversity zones, walking and cycling tracks, and open-air performance areas. There will also be specially designed sections for children and senior citizens, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for people of all age groups. The project aims to create a balance between infrastructure development and environmental sustainability, offering Mumbaikars a space that combines leisure, ecology, and urban design.
