The Bihar government has launched a major urban development initiative in Patna with the foundation stone laid for five new roads. Announced by Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, the ₹2 crore project includes roads, underground drains, and key infrastructure in densely populated wards. The initiative aims to boost connectivity, ease traffic, and resolve waterlogging across urban neighbourhoods.
At a ceremony held on Sunday, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, also the BJP MLA from Bankipore, inaugurated five road projects in Patna under the CM’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme. The initiative targets Wards 21, 22, and 23, focusing on upgraded drainage systems, proper road connectivity, and improved amenities. Local councillors and Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi were present during the launch.
The project is being executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDICO). It includes the construction of both underground drains and PCC roads at locations such as Sri Krishna Puri on Boring Road, Manorama Apartment area, and the lane connecting Kitab Bhawan to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. These areas are prone to severe waterlogging during monsoons.
Minister Nabin assured residents that the government is committed to resolving urban flooding and poor road conditions. He interacted with locals during the ceremony and directed officials to address complaints swiftly. The project also includes provisions for road dividers, street lighting, and underground cable laying to improve safety and urban mobility.
The road works fall under a broader vision to modernise Patna’s civic landscape by linking residential zones to national highways and major arterial roads. Selection criteria for the scheme also include population density, proximity to public institutions, and access to hospitals and tourist sites. The initiative underscores the NDA government’s agenda to develop inclusive, smart infrastructure.
The ₹2 crore road and drainage development in Patna marks a significant stride in addressing long-standing infrastructure bottlenecks. By combining surface upgrades with integrated drainage and lighting systems, the government hopes to set a benchmark for urban transformation in Bihar. As implementation progresses, residents look forward to smoother commutes, reduced flooding, and better neighbourhood connectivity—a critical need for Patna’s growing urban sprawl.
