Ratnagiri Airport’s Rs 55.56 Crore Revamp Nears Milestone

The ongoing redevelopment of Ratnagiri Airport under the ambitious Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) is gaining momentum, with 10% of the work now complete. With a total investment of ₹55.56 crore, the project is poised to enhance regional air connectivity, spur tourism, and boost the local economy.

Swati Pandey, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), provided a positive update on the progress through social media, stressing the importance of diligent site monitoring to ensure the timely completion of infrastructure developments. She described the revamp as a “game-changer” for Ratnagiri, promising modern facilities and improved accessibility for both passengers and airlines. The redevelopment plan includes the construction of a modern Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) spanning 3,390 square meters, with a capacity to handle 125 passengers per hour. The project also envisions aesthetic upgrades, including GRC cladding and landscaping, along with the addition of a 950-square-meter utility block. With a timeline set for completion within the next 18 months, the upgraded airport will offer better facilities and improved infrastructure.

The project incorporates cultural elements that celebrate the heritage of Ratnagiri, such as a grand entrance arch at the Mazgaon Road Junction, a flag mast that embodies regional pride, and a Mango Bonsai Garden, paying homage to the area’s renowned Alphonso mangoes. These additions aim to provide a unique experience for visitors while reflecting the local identity. Dorsch, as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), and Nyati, the contractor, are overseeing the construction efforts, which are expected to position Ratnagiri Airport as a key aviation hub for the region. The redevelopment is set to play a pivotal role in improving connectivity, supporting regional tourism, and driving economic growth in the area. With the project steadily progressing, stakeholders are optimistic that the revitalised airport will soon offer enhanced air travel options, connecting Ratnagiri to broader national and international destinations, making it an integral part of India’s growing aviation network.
