Rajasthan is on the brink of becoming a central hub for assembling and manufacturing solar power components, driven by recent amendments to its renewable energy policy aimed at incentivizing land allotment for projects at concessional rates. The state’s initiative under the BJP-led government seeks to bolster self-reliance in the power sector by promoting solar energy, marking a pivotal shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
The State Cabinet’s recent amendments to the renewable energy policy and land allotment rules are pivotal in attracting substantial investments into Rajasthan’s power sector. These changes are designed to enable the production of 1 MW of power on every two hectares of land, fostering a conducive environment for investment, employment generation, and increased revenue. The Minister of State for Energy highlighted the strategic importance of establishing solar component units within the state. This move is expected to significantly reduce manufacturing costs associated with solar panels, cables, and aluminium structures, thus enhancing competitiveness in the renewable energy market. “Rajasthan’s abundant solar radiation presents vast opportunities for investment in solar energy, positioning it as a critical sector for future growth,” affirmed the Minister. The government’s proactive engagement with stakeholders, including the Rajasthan Solar Association, underscores its commitment to supporting industry needs and incorporating feedback for further policy enhancements.
The promotion of solar energy aligns with the state’s natural advantages, harnessing ample solar radiation resources to drive sustainable energy initiatives. Notably, Rajasthan has already initiated projects under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, with work orders exceeding 4,460 MW for solarization of feeders, and plans to integrate additional 5,000 MW capacity plants into the scheme soon. The PM-KUSUM Scheme has also empowered farmers to utilize barren lands for power generation, complementing efforts to install rooftop solar plants in approximately 5 lakh houses through the Prime Minister’s ‘Surya Ghar Yojana’. These initiatives are pivotal in leveraging renewable energy potential while contributing to agricultural sustainability and rural electrification goals. As Rajasthan gears up to emerge as a leading player in solar manufacturing and renewable energy development, stakeholders anticipate a transformative impact on the state’s economic landscape.
