Rajasthan Launches Vande Bharat Trains Connecting Jodhpur Bikaner Direct Delhi
Rajasthan is set to strengthen its rail links with the introduction of two new direct Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Jodhpur and Bikaner to Delhi Cantt. These semi-high-speed services promise to reduce travel times by nearly an hour, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable, and efficient journey while facilitating smoother business and tourism exchanges between Rajasthan and the national capital.
Officials from the Indian Railways note that the Jodhpur-Delhi Vande Bharat Express will depart Jodhpur at 5:30 am, arriving at Delhi Cantt by 1:30 pm, while the return journey will start at 3:10 pm and reach Jodhpur by 11:15 pm. Major stops include Degana, Makrana, Jaipur, and Alwar. Meanwhile, the Bikaner-Delhi Express will leave Bikaner at 5:45 am, reach Delhi Cantt by 11:50 am, and return from Delhi Cantt at 4:45 pm, arriving in Bikaner at 11:00 pm, with stops at Ratangarh, Churu, and Rewari.
Experts highlight that the launch of these trains marks a pivotal step in modernising regional rail connectivity. By reducing travel durations, the services are expected to enhance the efficiency of trade, support tourism, and facilitate greater mobility for residents, businesses, and tourists. The North Western Railway zone will operate and maintain both trains, ensuring adherence to high safety and operational standards.
Economic analysts emphasise that faster and reliable rail connectivity can boost regional development by easing the movement of people, goods, and services. For businesses, the reduced travel time to Delhi improves market access and operational efficiency. Similarly, the improved convenience and comfort of Vande Bharat trains are expected to attract more domestic and international tourists to Rajasthan, further supporting local economies.
Rajasthan’s Vande Bharat network is now expanding rapidly. In addition to the new Jodhpur-Delhi and Bikaner-Delhi trains, the state already operates services including Ajmer to Chandigarh via Delhi, Jodhpur to Sabarmati, Udaipur to Jaipur, and Udaipur to Agra Cantt. The first Vande Bharat Express in Rajasthan was launched in April 2023, connecting Ajmer to Delhi Cantt and marking India’s commitment to semi-high-speed passenger rail services.
Transport and urban development experts suggest that these services align with sustainable mobility goals. Efficient, electrified trains like Vande Bharat reduce carbon emissions compared to road travel, contributing to greener, more eco-friendly transportation. Furthermore, the improved connectivity facilitates equitable access to economic opportunities and enhances regional integration between Delhi and Rajasthan.
Looking ahead, Rajasthan is expected to play a key role in India’s high-speed rail expansion. With additional Vande Bharat services and infrastructure upgrades planned, the state is positioned to become a central hub in the country’s modern rail network, transforming travel experiences while promoting economic growth and sustainability.
