Rajasthan High Court Orders NHAI to Complete Bhankrota Flyover by April 1, 2025

The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the long-delayed Bhankrota flyover project on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway by April 1, 2025. The court’s order came after hearing the ongoing delays in the project’s construction, which has been a major cause of traffic congestion in the region.

During the court hearing, the judges expressed their frustration with the repeated delays and the growing traffic issues in the Bhankrota area. The flyover, initially expected to be completed between July and August 2024, has remained unfinished, further exacerbating the already existing traffic woes. The court emphasized the urgency of finishing the flyover and noted that the public had been waiting far too long for the much-needed infrastructure. At the hearing, NHAI officials requested an additional three-month extension to complete the flyover, citing delays in the construction process. However, the court firmly rejected this request, underlining that the flyover must be operational by April 1, 2025. This deadline is non-negotiable, and any further delay is unacceptable, according to the judges. Furthermore, the court instructed NHAI to submit an action plan detailing how traffic diversions will be managed during the ongoing construction. The court set a deadline of two weeks for NHAI to submit this plan, stressing the importance of minimal disruption to commuters.

Aside from the construction delay, the court also addressed concerns about encroachments on the service roads and the width of the highway. The judges ordered that the highway should maintain a width of 48 meters, ensuring smooth traffic flow once the flyover is completed. Additionally, NHAI was directed to submit an affidavit addressing encroachments on the Kamala Nehru Nagar flyover and its service lanes by February 17, 2025. The delay in the Bhankrota flyover project has caused frustration among local residents and commuters. Advocates representing petitioners in the case, Kamlesh Rose, Dharmendra Chaudhary, and Seema Rose, have criticized NHAI for repeatedly extending the deadlines without delivering results. They argued that the prolonged delay is worsening the traffic situation, particularly during peak hours.

On the other hand, NHAI’s legal representative, Advocate Sandeep Pathak, defended the agency, noting that the firm handling the Bhankrota flyover had successfully completed five of the six flyovers it was contracted to build, with only the Bhankrota flyover still pending. With the court’s stern directive, NHAI is now racing against the clock to ensure the flyover is completed within the stipulated deadline. The completion of the Bhankrota flyover will significantly ease traffic congestion in the area, providing a smoother and faster route for commuters travelling on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway. For the residents and businesses in Bhankrota, the timely completion of this project is a much-needed relief. However, the pressure is now on NHAI to meet the April 1, 2025 deadline, with the Rajasthan High Court making it clear that there will be no further extensions.
