Rajasthan Expressway Projects Shift To NHAI For Accelerated Development

In Rajasthan, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially taken over the construction of two significant expressway projects in the state, signaling a major boost for its road infrastructure. These include the crucial Jaipur-to-Pachpadra and Bikaner-to-Kotputli corridors. Originally conceptualized by a state government agency, these projects are now under NHAI’s direct management, reflecting their strategic importance and potential to alleviate high traffic volumes. This transition is expected to accelerate the development of vital road networks, promising substantial reductions in travel times and a significant enhancement of logistical efficiency across the region.

The first undertaking is the 350-kilometer Jaipur-to-Pachpadra expressway, estimated to cost approximately ₹11,492 crore. This greenfield route will traverse important urban centers such as Kishangarh, Ajmer, and Jodhpur, ultimately providing enhanced connectivity to the strategically significant Barmer refinery area. The second project, the 295-kilometer Bikaner-to-Kotputli expressway, with an estimated cost of ₹10,839 crore, is projected to dramatically reduce current travel time from six hours to just three. This route will notably improve links to major northern Indian cities including Noida, Gurugram, Delhi, and the Agra-Mathura region, facilitating smoother inter-state movement.

Both expressways are anticipated to be developed utilizing the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), which integrates aspects of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) with Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) principles, ensuring efficient execution and long-term operational responsibility. Railway officials indicated that these initiatives are integral to a broader national strategy aimed at bolstering connectivity. These infrastructural enhancements are set to attract private investment, optimize supply chain efficiency, and stimulate industrial and urban expansion along the new corridors, thereby catalyzing significant regional economic progress and fostering overall development.

This strategic shift in project execution underscores a commitment to modernizing Rajasthan’s transport landscape. These expressways will not only enhance connectivity and reduce travel burdens but also stimulate economic growth by improving access to industrial and commercial hubs, contributing significantly to the state’s comprehensive development and regional integration.
