Rajasthan has taken a major step forward in improving its rural water supply by awarding a ₹385 crore infrastructure contract to SPML Infra Limited under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The project, located in the Kekri-Sarwar sector of Ajmer district, is aimed at significantly upgrading the region’s drinking water delivery system and includes a massive 160 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant sourced from the Bisalpur Dam.
The ambitious contract includes the construction of two clear water reservoirs with a combined capacity of 37.75 MLD, a 58.675 km-long transmission pipeline, and the development of pumping stations integrated with advanced SCADA-based monitoring systems. This technology-driven infrastructure is designed to allow real-time tracking and operational efficiency, ensuring reliable water supply to underserved areas.
SPML Infra, a leading player in infrastructure development, will not only construct the system but also handle a 10-year operation and maintenance contract, ensuring sustainable performance and accountability well beyond the project’s completion. The inclusion of O&M reflects a growing emphasis on long-term viability in public infrastructure contracts, especially under national missions like Jal Jeevan.
The project is a critical component of the Centre’s goal to provide piped water to every rural household. It also marks a strategic win for SPML Infra, strengthening its footprint in Rajasthan and reinforcing its position as a reliable partner in the government’s rural development vision. By combining modern engineering with digital solutions, this initiative is expected to set a benchmark for integrated water management and rural service delivery in India.
