Rain hard Hits Hyderabad, Civic Authorities Spring into Action

Hyderabad found itself gripped by rain havoc, prompting a swift response from civic authorities as heavy rainfall inundated various parts of the city. Reports from the Telangana Development and Planning Society indicated substantial rainfall in localities like Maredpally, Khairatabad, and Musheerabad, with Maredpally recording 75.3 mm and Khairatabad closely following with 74 mm between 0830 and 2000 hours on Sunday.

Multiple areas experienced waterlogging, necessitating immediate action by teams of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Cyberabad Police. Emergency teleconferences were convened by the GHMC Mayor with zonal commissioners and emergency response teams, emphasizing proactive measures to manage the situation and minimize public inconvenience. The severity of the weather was highlighted by meteorological warnings issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting continued heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas across Telangana, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, and Mahabubabad districts until Monday morning. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds were also forecasted for various districts during this period, requiring heightened vigilance from local authorities.

Efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow amidst the waterlogging were successfully coordinated by the Cyberabad Traffic Police and GHMC Monsoon teams, as highlighted in statements from both agencies, showcasing their effective collaboration in managing the crisis and providing necessary assistance to affected residents. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development office reported active inspections and coordination efforts, led by Principal Secretary MAUD, Sri Dana Kishore, who supervised field operations and liaised with engineering teams and emergency responders. These initiatives aimed to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall on city infrastructure and public safety. As Hyderabad navigates the aftermath of the monsoon deluge, attention remains focused on ongoing relief efforts and strategic measures to prevent future disruptions. The city’s resilience in the face of natural challenges underscores the importance of robust urban planning and emergency preparedness, ensuring swift responses to safeguard lives and property during adverse weather conditions.
