The health official who conducted the unannounced inspection stated that the concerning information regarding the unit’s practices was received the previous night, leading to the swift morning raid. The findings extended beyond the primary catering premises, with expired food also discovered stored in a nearby godown where the unit’s staff were residing, further compounding the severity of the hygiene violations. Given that the catering operation was reportedly functioning without a valid corporation license and in clear contravention of established regulations, the decision to cease its operations and seal the premises was deemed necessary to safeguard public health.
The local municipal councillor corroborated the findings, informing reporters that numerous prior warnings had been issued to the unit regarding the illegal disposal of waste into the canal. Despite these repeated admonitions and even the imposition of fines, the unit allegedly continued its polluting activities unabated. The councillor further revealed that local residents had alerted him to a foul odour emanating from the premises, prompting his visit and subsequent notification to the health authorities.
