PWD Promises Ghodbunder Road Repairs in 10 Days

Thane residents may soon experience some relief from the daily traffic chaos on Ghodbunder Road, as the Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) has assured that the ongoing repair work will be completed within the next eight to 10 days. The announcement comes amidst growing public frustration over the pothole-ridden road, which has led to massive traffic jams and inconvenience for daily commuters.

According to a PWD official, repairs on Ghodbunder Road are being carried out on a day-to-day basis as required. “We aim to complete the repair work on this stretch within the next eight to 10 days. Concrete road construction has already been sanctioned, and work orders have been issued. The construction will commence shortly,” the official stated. Ghodbunder Road, particularly the 14-kilometre stretch between Kapurbavadi and Fountain Hotel, is under the jurisdiction of the PWD for maintenance. Residents have long complained about the poor road conditions, with issues emerging every four months that cause vehicle breakdowns, especially in the ghat section, leading to frequent traffic snarls.

A group of concerned citizens, known as “Justice for Ghodbunder Road,” was formed about a month ago in response to these recurring problems, including potholes, traffic jams, and inadequate street lighting. The group actively supports traffic management efforts and keeps the local community informed about the progress of the repair work. A recent meeting between residents, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officials, PWD representatives, and traffic police resulted in the deployment of additional traffic wardens to manage the congestion more effectively.

Furthermore, a temporary ban on heavy vehicles has been imposed during the Ganpati festival to reduce traffic load. The PWD’s assurance to repair the road comes as a welcome relief for the residents who have been vocal about the persistent issues affecting this major thoroughfare. As work continues, commuters are hopeful that the promised repairs will bring a more permanent solution to the recurring problems on Ghodbunder Road.
