The review session focused on the progress of ongoing national highway projects spanning 1,438 kilometres and costing approximately INR 45,000 crore in Punjab. Key issues discussed during the meeting included the swift acquisition of land, prompt distribution of compensation, the creation of a land bank of non-forest land in exchange for forest land acquired for the projects, and the provision of ash from thermal power plants to facilitate construction. One of the primary concerns highlighted was the delay in land acquisition for certain projects. The participants emphasised the need for quick resolutions to expedite the construction process and minimise disruptions. The Punjab Cabinet Minister assured the Union Minister that the state government is committed to resolving all these issues in a timely manner, ensuring smoother transport facilities for the people of Punjab.
Another critical project brought to the Union Minister’s attention was the construction of a Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at Khan-kot. This project aims to enhance connectivity and improve road safety, demonstrating the government’s commitment to infrastructural development and public safety. The high-level meeting underscored the collaborative efforts between central and state governments, alongside private sector participants, to drive the successful completion of national highway projects. The Union Minister’s proactive approach and the Punjab government’s commitment to addressing and resolving issues promptly are expected to accelerate the pace of infrastructure development in the state
