Pune’s bustling Hinjawadi IT hub is poised for a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul, following stringent directives from Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District, Ajit Pawar. During a crucial review meeting at the PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority) office, Pawar mandated immediate and concrete measures to alleviate the area’s worsening traffic congestion and address critical issues stemming from illegal encroachments on natural water channels. This strategic intervention underscores a commitment to fostering sustainable urban growth while ensuring seamless mobility crucial for the region’s economic engine.
The relentless traffic snarls in Hinjawadi, along with its adjacent areas like Maan and Marunji, have long been a bottleneck for the thriving information technology sector. Recognising the imperative for swift vehicular movement, Mr. Pawar instructed administrative agencies to propose new alternative roads and expedite existing road widening projects. This proactive approach aims to significantly enhance accessibility and reduce the considerable commute times experienced by thousands of professionals daily, thereby bolstering the region’s appeal as a premier business destination.
A critical concern raised during the high-level meeting was the pervasive issue of encroachments over natural streams and drains within Hinjawadi IT Park. These unauthorised structures have severely impeded the natural flow of rainwater, exacerbating waterlogging issues, particularly during the monsoon season. Mr. Pawar issued firm directives for the immediate demolition of such illegal constructions, restoration of natural drainage systems, and stringent legal action against those responsible for diverting water channels. This resolute stance highlights the administration’s resolve to safeguard the city’s ecological balance and ensure public safety, aligning with the vision of creating climate-resilient urban spaces.
Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar personally conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing Pune Metro Line 3 work within the Hinjawadi IT Park, meticulously reviewing the progress of metro station construction. He urged officials from the Metro and Tata company to accelerate the project’s completion, emphasising its pivotal role in mitigating vehicular traffic congestion. The timely operationalisation of this metro line is anticipated to provide a much-needed public transport backbone, promoting a shift towards greener commuting options and contributing significantly to the city’s zero net carbon objectives.
The PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner, Dr. Yogesh Mhase, provided updates on key developmental initiatives, including the ambitious Ring Road project and other planned interventions specifically for the Hinjawadi region. These integrated infrastructure projects, encompassing road network expansion, public transport solutions, and the restoration of natural waterways, represent a holistic strategy. Such comprehensive urban planning is vital for transforming Hinjawadi into a more equitable and eco-friendly zone, ensuring that the economic vibrancy of the IT sector is matched by a high quality of life for its residents and a sustainable environment for future generations.
