Pune Weather to Stay Rainy Until June 3

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that Pune will experience light to moderate rainfall from May 31 through June 3.

This period of consistent precipitation follows a week of heavy rains, offering a respite to residents and aiding in agricultural activities. In Nashik, light rain is expected at isolated places on May 31, with light rain or thundershowers anticipated on June 1. The intensity may increase to light to moderate rain or thundershowers on June 2, before tapering off to light rain at isolated places on June 3.

Kolhapur is likely to see light rain at isolated places on May 31, transitioning to light to moderate rain from June 1 to June 3. Satara and Sangli districts are also expected to experience similar patterns, with light rain at isolated places on May 31 and June 1, followed by light to moderate rain on June 2 and light rain at isolated places on June 3. Solapur’s forecast indicates light rain at isolated places throughout the period from May 31 to June 3. Aurangabad is expected to have light rain or thundershowers from May 31 to June 2, with light rain at isolated places on June 3. Ahmednagar will likely experience light rain at isolated places on May 31, light rain or thundershowers on June 1, and light rain at isolated places on June 2 and June 3.

These weather patterns are influenced by the weakening of a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, leading to reduced monsoon intensity over Maharashtra. However, a new low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal may affect coastal districts without significantly impacting the rest of the state. The consistent light to moderate rainfall is beneficial for farmers, particularly in harvesting crops like bajra and groundnuts and preparing fields for sowing. Despite the recent heavy rains causing flooding and damage to over 40,000 hectares of crops, the current weather conditions provide an opportunity for recovery and planning for the upcoming kharif season.
