Pune Vande Bharat Express to Cut Nanded Travel Time to 7 Hours

The upcoming Vande Bharat Express between Pune and Nanded is set to redefine regional connectivity in Maharashtra, cutting travel time between the two cities to just seven hours. Expected to begin operations in December 2025, the semi-high-speed service will strengthen trade, education, and tourism corridors linking western Maharashtra with the Marathwada region.

The 550-kilometre stretch between Pune and Nanded currently takes around ten hours by conventional trains. The Vande Bharat Express aims to reduce this duration significantly while enhancing travel comfort and operational efficiency. According to railway officials, the project aligns with Indian Railways’ broader agenda of promoting sustainable, faster, and commuter-friendly mobility solutions across the country.

The train will halt at key regional centres, including Osmanabad (Dharashiv) and Latur, providing vital links for local commuters and small businesses. With improved punctuality and reduced transit time, the service is expected to benefit professionals, students, and families while stimulating economic activity in smaller towns along the route.

Officials revealed that the train will feature state-of-the-art amenities such as air-conditioned coaches, Wi-Fi connectivity, reclining seats, advanced safety systems, and low-noise interiors. In addition, the Vande Bharat’s design built under the government’s “Make in India” initiative supports local manufacturing and job creation in the railway engineering sector.Fares will remain competitive, ranging from approximately ₹1,500–₹2,500 for AC Chair Car and ₹2,000–₹3,000 for Executive Class seats, ensuring affordability for most passengers. The affordability and time efficiency make this service an appealing choice for those commuting between Maharashtra’s commercial and educational hubs.

Industry experts noted that the improved rail corridor would enhance supply chain efficiency and agricultural logistics, offering quicker transport for perishable goods and industrial products. The connectivity upgrade is also projected to boost tourism, especially to destinations around Latur’s historical monuments and Nanded’s cultural landmarks. Moreover, the initiative is being lauded as a significant step toward eco-friendly mobility, as Vande Bharat trains operate on energy-efficient technology with reduced carbon emissions compared to diesel locomotives. Railway officials highlighted that this transition supports India’s long-term target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions in transport infrastructure by 2070.As the Pune–Nanded Vande Bharat Express nears its launch, it symbolises India’s stride towards modernising its intercity rail network, bringing sustainability and speed together. The project not only enhances passenger experience but also reinforces the government’s vision of building inclusive, green, and future-ready cities connected through smarter mobility.
