Pune’s railway services are currently experiencing disruptions as Central Railway (CR) undertakes significant infrastructure upgrades at Hadapsar station and on two critical bridges between Hadapsar and Yavat. These essential works, which commenced on July 11 and are scheduled to continue until July 16, aim to transform Hadapsar into a satellite terminal. This development is crucial for decongesting Pune Junction and substantially improving the region’s overall train handling capacity, promising long-term benefits for railway operations and passenger convenience.
As part of this major upgrade, Bridge No. 201/1 and Bridge No. 227/1 on the busy Pune–Daund section are undergoing replacement through the efficient “Cut and Cover” method, utilizing RCC segmental boxes. Consequently, numerous train services are being affected. On July 14 and 15, the Jodhpur Junction–Hadapsar Express (Train No. 20495) was short-terminated at Pune Junction, with its return service (Train No. 20496) short-originating from Pune, effectively cancelling services between Pune and Hadapsar. Further disruptions are anticipated on July 16, including the full cancellation of Pune Junction–Daund Junction DEMU services (Train Nos. 71407 and 71408).
Additionally, several long-distance trains face regulation, with delays ranging from 15 minutes to an hour. For instance, the Nagercoil Junction–Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Express (Train No. 16340) is delayed by an hour, while some trains, like the CSMT–Bengaluru Express (Train No. 11301), have been rescheduled to depart several hours later. Railway authorities have urged passengers to check updated train schedules before commencing travel, emphasizing that while these works cause temporary inconvenience, they are vital for modernizing the railway network and ensuring smoother operations in the future.
These essential infrastructure enhancements, despite temporary inconveniences, are vital for modernizing the urban railway network. They promise improved connectivity and reduced congestion, ultimately benefiting commuters with more efficient and reliable train services. Such investments are crucial for sustainable regional development.
