In a proactive measure to ensure the safety and smooth passage of the upcoming Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a special drive to remove unauthorized hoardings along the Pune-Solapur Road, particularly in the Loni Kalbhor area of Haveli Taluka.
The initiative aims to eliminate potential hazards posed by illegally erected hoardings, which can obstruct visibility and pose risks to commuters, especially during the monsoon season when heavy rains and gusty winds can compromise their stability. Authorities have already dismantled 21 such structures and plan to continue the operation over the next 10 days. PMRDA officials have emphasized that public safety is the top priority, urging advertisers and property owners to voluntarily remove unsafe and unauthorized hoardings.
Failure to comply will result in unilateral removal by PMRDA teams. Additionally, the authority has reiterated that no new hoardings will be permitted without prior approval. This crackdown is part of a broader effort by PMRDA to address unauthorized constructions and encroachments along key arterial roads in the district, including the Pune-Satara and Pune-Nashik highways. In recent months, the authority has removed over 2,000 illegal encroachments, clearing approximately 200,000 square meters of road space to ease traffic congestion.
The PMRDA’s actions align with the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens, particularly during significant cultural events like the Palkhi processions. By removing potential hazards and improving traffic flow, the authority aims to provide a safer and more efficient travel experience for all commuters. As the Palkhi processions approach, PMRDA continues to monitor and address unauthorized structures and hoardings along the procession routes, reaffirming its dedication to public safety and urban planning.
