Pune Rains Cut Power to Over 38000 Homes

A powerful spell of rain on Tuesday evening disrupted power supply to over 38,000 homes across Pune and nearby regions, after flooded feeder pillars and fallen trees crippled the electrical infrastructure.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) confirmed that restoration work continued through the night as teams rushed to repair damages. One of the worst-hit areas, Kondhwa, saw 38 feeder pillars inundated due to rapid water flow and uneven terrain. Authorities shut down power to Kondhwa, JK Park, and Kumar Palm as a safety measure, affecting thousands of residents. With water levels receding by Wednesday morning, MSEDCL began drying and repairing the flooded systems, gradually restoring electricity in the area. The storm also brought down 10 power poles in Chakan’s rural belt, disrupting supply in Kuruli, Nighoje, Sara City, Nanekarwadi, Mahalunge, and Ambethan. Several other parts of Pune, including Fursungi, Kothrud, Shivane, Dhanori, and Market Yard, reported blackouts caused by fallen trees, waterlogged roads, and damaged underground cables.

Additional outages were recorded in Bhosari, Talawade, Dehu, Shelarnagar, Chikhali, Charholi, and Vitthalwadi, where power lines and poles bore the brunt of strong winds and rain. Localities such as Indrayani Nagar, Santnagar, and Shantinagar also experienced prolonged outages as repair teams worked late into the night to restore connections. MSEDCL has activated multiple emergency channels for residents to report outages. Customers can call the toll-free helplines 1912, 1800-212-3435, or 1800-233-3435. Complaints are also accepted via SMS at 9930399303 using the format “NOPOWER”, or through a missed call to 022-50897100 from a registered mobile number.

While rainfall brought some relief from the region’s summer heat, the impact on essential services like power has raised concerns about infrastructure preparedness ahead of the full monsoon season.
