The Pune Division of Central Railway has intensified its campaign against unauthorized vendors operating within railway premises. From May 1 to June 10, a total of 1,314 cases were registered against illegal hawkers, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring a secure and clean environment for commuters.
The crackdown was initiated under the guidance of the Divisional Railway Manager, with coordinated efforts from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Commercial Department. The primary objective of this initiative is to eliminate the sale of unlicensed food items and unauthorized packaged drinking water, which pose potential health risks to passengers. During the enforcement period, the RPF registered 706 cases in May, collecting fines amounting to ₹2,88,670. In the first ten days of June, 282 cases were filed, with fines totaling ₹96,020. Simultaneously, the Commercial Department booked 195 cases in May, recovering ₹39,250, and 131 cases in June, amounting to ₹38,600. Additionally, over 1,900 unlicensed packaged water bottles were seized across various stations, including Pune, Daund, Miraj, Satara, Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, and Belapur.
The Pune Division has also implemented technological measures to combat unauthorized vending. Authorized vendors have been issued QR code-based identification cards, enabling railway officials to verify their legitimacy swiftly. This system has proven effective, leading to the apprehension of several unauthorized vendors attempting to operate without proper authorization. Passenger feedback has played a crucial role in identifying and addressing the issue of unauthorized vending. Complaints regarding unhygienic food practices and overcharging have been promptly acted upon, with violators facing appropriate legal action. The railway administration has urged passengers to report any instances of unauthorized vending through official channels, including the ‘Rail Madad’ helpline and social media platforms.
This ongoing campaign reflects the Pune Division’s dedication to providing a safe and hygienic travel experience for all passengers. By curbing unauthorized vending, the division aims to uphold the integrity of railway services and ensure that passengers receive quality food and beverages during their journeys.
