The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) has intensified its efforts to ensure a disciplined public transport system, collecting over ₹21 lakh in penalties during May and June 2025. This significant amount was recovered from both passengers traveling without valid tickets and employees found guilty of misconduct or rule violations. The public transport body’s comprehensive drive aims to improve service quality, accountability, and financial integrity across its extensive network serving the Pune Metropolitan Region.
According to the PMPML administration, approximately ₹12.89 lakh was recovered from 2,578 passengers caught fare-evading during routine bus inspections. Each of these passengers was levied a fine of ₹500. Beyond penalizing ticketless travel, the PMPML also initiated disciplinary action against its own drivers and conductors. Reports submitted by ticket-checking staff led to the imposition of ₹8.44 lakh in fines on employees over the same two-month period. In May, ₹3.77 lakh was collected from employees for eight cases of misconduct and 768 reported irregularities, while June saw ₹4.66 lakh in fines for 13 cases of misconduct and an additional 685 reports.
This concerted effort underscores PMPML’s commitment to fostering a safe, disciplined, and accountable public transport environment. The transport body has appealed to all commuters to ensure they purchase valid tickets prior to boarding and to cooperate with staff during their journeys. These measures, alongside recent fare adjustments, reflect a broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction within Pune’s vital public transportation system.
The rigorous enforcement of rules against both passengers and personnel highlights a drive for greater accountability within urban public transport. Such measures are crucial for sustaining service quality, promoting equitable access, and ensuring financial health, ultimately benefiting all commuters in the metropolitan area.
