Pune PMRDA To Launch Rs 900 Crore Projects To Boost Regional Infrastructure Growth

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced plans to roll out over ₹900 crore worth of infrastructure projects as part of its wider ₹33,700 crore roadmap aimed at strengthening urban services and fuelling industrial growth across the metropolitan region. The initiative, which spans the next five years, seeks to create a more connected, business-friendly, and sustainable urban ecosystem around Pune’s expanding industrial belt.

According to officials, the projects will prioritise critical urban and industrial infrastructure, including road connectivity, drainage systems, and civic amenities in rapidly growing nodes such as Chakan, Talegaon, Hinjawadi, Ranjangaon, and Pirangut. These zones, long recognised as the backbone of Pune’s industrial economy, have faced challenges due to fragmented planning, poor coordination among agencies, and delays in regulatory clearances. To address these bottlenecks, the PMRDA will soon establish a dedicated industrial grievance cell with a full-time staff of technical and planning experts. This unit will streamline processes related to building permissions, fire safety approvals, and other administrative requirements. By decentralising key powers to taluka-level offices, the authority aims to expedite decision-making and enhance transparency in development clearances.

Officials highlighted that quarterly review meetings will be conducted with representatives from industrial associations to monitor project progress and address region-specific issues. These structured interactions are expected to improve coordination between PMRDA, local councils, and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and within schedule. Experts noted that this decentralised approach marks a shift in how large metropolitan regions like Pune are managed. “Empowering local administrative units and engaging industry bodies can significantly reduce red tape while encouraging sustainable, investment-ready growth,” said an urban development analyst.

Beyond economic considerations, the PMRDA’s new roadmap underscores a long-term focus on sustainable urbanisation. Planners are exploring strategies to align upcoming infrastructure with environmental resilience goals, including integrated drainage, energy-efficient building systems, and inclusive planning for industrial workers’ housing. As Pune continues to evolve into a key node of western India’s industrial corridor, this ₹900 crore phase is seen as the foundation for a larger, regionally balanced urban development model — one that combines growth with sustainability, inclusivity, and ease of doing business.
