Pune Municipality Accelerates Drain Cleaning Operations Ahead of Monsoon

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its efforts in ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of crucial drainage systems across the city.

Spearheaded by Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, a comprehensive inspection was conducted on Tuesday, encompassing pivotal sites including Ambil Odha, Nagzari Nala, and Manik Nala. Commissioner Bhosale, accompanied by key officials including Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP and Santosh Tandale, Superintending Engineer of the Sewage Division, diligently surveyed critical areas such as Vaikunth Crematorium, Dandekar Bridge, Shivdarshan, Aranyeshwar, K.K. Market, Katraj, and Katraj Lake. The meticulous inspection, extending until dusk, underscored the municipality’s commitment to pre-empting any potential drainage-related issues.

The urgency in completing these vital maintenance works was emphasised during the inspection, with Commissioner Bhosale directing officials to ensure completion before May 15, particularly in areas directly impacting residential communities. This proactive approach comes in the wake of previous years’ delays, which had often resulted in extended cleaning operations stretching into June. PMC’s foresight in initiating the tender process for drain cleaning well in advance, aligned with preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, underscores a strategic shift towards timely execution of essential civic projects. By allocating distinct tenders to its 15 regional offices, the municipality has streamlined operations, ensuring a focused and efficient approach to drainage maintenance. It is worth noting that the past delays in drain cleaning projects had been marred by malpractices aimed at expedited completion. However, Commissioner Bhosale’s steadfast resolve to uphold quality standards and thoroughness in the ongoing operations reflects a paradigm shift towards transparency and accountability within PMC’s administrative framework. As dusk settled over Pune, Commissioner Bhosale expressed satisfaction with the progress made, signalling a promising trajectory towards ensuring the city’s resilience against monsoon-induced challenges. With these concerted efforts, PMC aims to fortify Pune’s infrastructure, safeguarding against the disruptive impact of seasonal rains on its populace and vital urban functions.
