Pune Metro to Complete Civil Court-Swargate Stretch

Pune Metro is on track to complete the much-anticipated Civil Court to Swargate stretch by the end of July, with plans to invite the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for final inspection and safety clearance of the Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate stations. The goal is to commence operations on this crucial segment before the Ganesh festival in September and ahead of the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming state assembly elections in October.

An official from Pune Metro provided an update on the progress, stating, “The work on the Swargate underground station is in the final stages, with 95 per cent of the construction completed. We also aim to finish the Mandai-Budhwar Peth stretch by the end of next month.” The completion of this stretch is expected to significantly enhance commuter convenience during the Ganesh festival, facilitating easier access to pandals across the city. Pune Metro successfully conducted a trial run on the Civil Court to Swargate stretch in February 2024, which is the last section of Pune Metro Line 1. The trial run, covering a distance of 3.34 km at a speed of 7.5 km per hour, took one hour to complete. According to officials, the distance between Civil Court and Budhwar Peth station is 0.85 km, from Budhwar Peth to Mandai is 1 km, and from Mandai to Swargate is 1.48 km.

Having inaugurated passenger services on Pune Metro Line 2 (Ruby Hall to Ramwadi) on 6th March, Pune Metro’s current focus is on the final section of Phase 1, the 3.34-kilometer underground stretch between Civil Court and Swargate. Presently, Pune Metro operates passenger services on Lines 1 and 2, with an average daily ridership of approximately 90,000 passengers. The fare structure for the Vanaz to Ramwadi corridor ranges from ₹10 to ₹35, while the fare for the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Civil Court stretch ranges from ₹10 to ₹30. These affordable fares are designed to cater to a wide demographic of commuters, encouraging greater use of public transport in the city. With the completion of the Civil Court to Swargate stretch, Pune Metro is poised to provide a significant boost to the city’s public transportation network. This development is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide a more efficient and environmentally friendly commuting option for Pune’s residents.
