Pune Metro commuters, Maha Metro has confirmed the imminent renaming of three key stations—Bhosari, Budhwar Peth, and Mangalwar Peth—following extensive public feedback and requests. The changes are set to be officially implemented within the next 10 to 15 days, streamlining station names to better reflect their geographical locations and landmarks. Maha Metro had initially proposed these name changes in 2023, but final approval from higher authorities had been pending. Recent developments confirm that the process is nearing completion, with a gazette notification expected shortly.
The station formerly known as Bhosari will be renamed Nashik Phata, addressing commuter confusion due to the station’s location on Corridor One in Pimpri-Chinchwad, which is distinct from the Bhosari area itself. Similarly, Mangalwar Peth station will now be called RTO Station, aligning with the proximity of the Regional Transport Office to the station. Budhwar Peth station, which has faced negative connotations due to its association with a known red-light area, will be renamed Kasba Peth, a designation more reflective of the station’s actual locale. These modifications are designed to enhance the navigability and relevance of the metro system’s station names. Additionally, Kasarwadi Metro Station will be renamed Nashik Phata Station, further aligning the station names with local landmarks and improving commuter convenience.
In related developments, the Central Government has approved the renaming of Civil Court Station to Shivajinagar District Court Metro Station, reflecting the legal district’s identity. Moreover, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned the Swargate-to-Katraj Underground Line Extension, a key component of the Pune Metro Phase-I expansion, with a projected cost of Rs 12,200 crore. This extension aims to connect prominent areas such as Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada, and Hiranandani Estate, expanding the network to 29 km by 2029. These updates signal Pune Metro’s ongoing commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring that the metro system meets the needs of its growing user base.
